Our Story

A Community-Led Movement

The Abyei Youth Association (AYA) is the representative body of the youth of Abyei residing in Juba, South Sudan — the sons and daughters of Abyei between the ages of 18 and 35 years.

Established in 2018, AYA is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-religious and non-profit association committed to fostering unity among its members, preserving the cultural identity and morality of the Ngok community, and promoting the recreational, social and economic well-being of the youth.

Guided by our constitution and our motto — Unity is Our Strength & Power — we empower young people through idea-sharing, training, and active participation in the affairs of our community.

Aims & Objectives

Our Aim

To foster unity amongst our members and to empower the youth through the sharing of ideas, preserving our cultural identity and morality, promoting recreational activities, and advancing socio-economic improvement.

Our Objectives

To promote and foster unity amongst ourselves as youth of Abyei and with other youth.
To promote social and cultural interaction within the Ngok community.
To help promote and disseminate information that encourages national reconciliation and healing across diverse communities.
To train youth in various skills such as ICT and vocational training in the Abyei Area.
To be at the forefront in the fight against poverty and hunger through agricultural awareness across the states of South Sudan.
To identify and mobilize all Abyei youth to know themselves as brothers and sisters.
To participate in solving problems and obstacles that hamper the socio-economic development of the youth.
To be an active centre in promoting girl-child enrolment in the Abyei Area.
To provide support and career guidance to new students at various levels of education.
To actively participate in community mobilization towards education, sports and health programs.
To provide awareness, especially on HIV/AIDS, STDs, and other epidemic diseases.
To discourage sectarianism, nepotism, and disunity among Abyei youth wherever they are.
